Refund & Cancellation Policy

Last updated: October 3, 2026

This policy explains how cancellations, rescheduling, credits, and refunds work at Pratice. It is the practical companion to our Terms of Service. If anything here conflicts with the Terms, the Terms govern.

1. The short version

  • Cancel or reschedule free up to 24 hours before a lesson.
  • Inside 24 hours, the lesson counts as taken.
  • If a tutor doesn't show, you're credited automatically.
  • Monthly plans can be cancelled anytime — you keep lessons already taken.
  • Contact us if something feels wrong. We resolve cases individually.

2. Free trial lesson

Your first 60-minute trial lesson is free. No card is required and nothing is charged. If you cancel the trial before it starts, nothing happens — you just don't take the lesson.

3. Cancelling or rescheduling a lesson

You can cancel or reschedule any individual lesson from your student dashboard.

  • More than 24 hours before the scheduled start time — free. The lesson stays on your account and can be rebooked.
  • Less than 24 hours before — the lesson counts as taken. This protects tutors who have set aside the time for you.
  • No-show (you don't join and don't notify us) — the lesson counts as taken.

If an emergency happens — illness, family matter, work crisis — tell us. We handle these case by case, and a documented emergency will normally be credited.

4. If your tutor cancels or doesn't show

If a tutor cancels within 24 hours or fails to appear for a scheduled lesson, you are credited for that lesson automatically. You choose whether to:

  • Rebook the lesson with the same tutor at a later time;
  • Switch to a different tutor for that lesson;
  • Request a refund for that lesson.

Repeated tutor no-shows lead to removal from the platform. We take tutor reliability seriously.

5. Technical issues

If a lesson cannot proceed because of a technical failure on the tutor's side — no audio, no video, disconnection — the lesson is credited. If the issue is on your side (no internet, broken mic), we will do our best to reschedule within reason, but the 24-hour rule still applies.

6. Monthly plans

Monthly plans renew automatically each cycle until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your dashboard.

  • Cancelling mid-cycle — the plan stops at the end of the current billing period. No further charges occur. You keep access and lessons until that date.
  • Partial-month refunds — because lessons are scheduled weekly across the month, we do not refund partial months once lessons have begun. If you haven't taken any lessons in the current cycle and cancel within the first 48 hours, contact us and we will refund that cycle.
  • Unused credits — lessons credited to your account (for example, from a tutor no-show) carry forward and can be used while your account is active.

7. Refund method and timing

All payments are processed by PayPal. Approved refunds are issued back through PayPal to the original payment method. Refunds typically appear on your account within 5–10 business days, depending on your bank or card issuer.

Where a full refund isn't practical — for example, because the lesson was partially delivered — we may issue a lesson credit instead. Credits are applied to your account and can be used against future lessons.

8. Student discounts and promotional pricing

If you paid a discounted rate (student discount, referral, promotional offer), refunds are issued at the amount you actually paid, not the standard rate.

9. Chargebacks

If you believe a charge is incorrect, contact us at learn@pratice.ca first. We resolve almost every billing issue directly within a few days. Filing a chargeback before contacting us may result in your account being paused while the dispute is investigated.

10. Cancelling your account

You can close your account at any time. When you do:

  • Any active monthly plan is cancelled at the end of the current cycle;
  • Unused lesson credits expire when the account closes;
  • Your data is deleted or anonymized according to our Privacy Policy.

11. Exceptions and good faith

This policy covers the normal cases. If you have a situation that doesn't fit neatly — medical emergency, bereavement, immigration interview moved, anything serious — email us. We treat every learner as an individual, and we would rather work it out than enforce a rule for its own sake.

12. Contact us

Billing or refund question? Email learn@pratice.ca or use our contact form. We reply within one business day.

This document is a plain-language summary of Pratice's refund and cancellation rules. It is not legal advice. If you have a consumer-protection question, consult the appropriate provincial consumer protection authority.
