What learners say

Real feedback from Canadian learners preparing for work, exams, and life in French.

I needed NCLC 7 for Express Entry and had no idea where to start. My tutor built a plan around the writing section β€” my weakest skill β€” and I hit NCLC 8 in four months. The mock exams were the difference.
Priya S. Toronto Β· TEF Prep Β· NCLC 8
I had tried apps for two years and never got past A2. The free practice questions led me to book a trial, and within a week I had a real plan. My 1-on-1 tutor corrects me in real time β€” that's what finally worked.
Marcus L. Vancouver Β· 1-on-1 Β· A2 β†’ B1
I'm preparing for a bilingual public-sector job. The group classes are small, the conversations are real, and I finally feel confident speaking French at work. Worth every dollar.
AmΓ©lie D. Ottawa Β· Group classes Β· B2
The free Q&A library is what got me. I could see exactly how Pratice tutors explain things before I paid anything. That made the trial an easy decision.
Jae-hyun K. Calgary Β· 1-on-1 Β· B1
My tutor prepared me for both TEF and TCF formats, so I could pick the one that suited me better on exam day. The strategy sessions alone were worth it.
Adaeze O. Montreal Β· TEF & TCF Prep
I'm a busy parent and I needed flexibility. The monthly plan let me schedule around school pickup. My tutor even shifted evenings when my work changed.

Common questions

Everything people ask before their first lesson.

Is the trial really free?

Yes. Your first 60-minute lesson with a Pratice tutor is completely free β€” no card required, no auto-enrolment. It's a real lesson, not a sales call.

How do the monthly plans work?

You choose 1-on-1, Group, or TEF/TCF Prep. Your lessons are scheduled weekly, and your plan renews each month. You can cancel anytime β€” no long-term contract.

What happens during the trial?

Your tutor assesses your current level, talks through your goals, and gives you a short plan for how to get there. You also do some real practice β€” either conversation, grammar, or exam prep, depending on what you're working toward.

How do lessons work?

All lessons are 60 minutes, live online, one-on-one (or in a small group of up to six learners). You meet your tutor at a scheduled time using a video call. After the lesson, you get homework and progress notes in your dashboard.

Do I need a specific level to start?

No. We teach complete beginners (A1) all the way up to mastery (C2). If you're unsure where you are, your trial tutor will place you on the CEFR scale during the lesson.

How do I pay?

We accept payment via PayPal in CAD. You pay monthly for your plan. No hidden fees, no automatic charges you didn't agree to.

Can I cancel or reschedule a lesson?

Yes, free up to 24 hours before your lesson. Inside 24 hours, the lesson counts as taken. You can reschedule directly from your student dashboard. You can cancel your plan anytime from your dashboard.

What if my tutor doesn't show up?

You get automatically credited for that lesson. We take tutor reliability seriously β€” repeated no-shows lead to removal from the platform.

Is this useful for TEF or TCF?

Yes. Our TEF/TCF track covers all four skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking), includes mock tests under real exam conditions, and coaches you on strategy and time management. Learn more β†’

Can I choose my tutor?

Yes. After your trial, you can continue with the same tutor or switch to someone else β€” whatever fits best. All tutors on Pratice are vetted and sign our no-solicit agreement.

Do you offer a discount for students?

Yes. Full-time students get 15% off 1-on-1 and TEF/TCF plans. Email learn@pratice.ca from your student address to activate it.

Are tutors native French speakers?

Most of our tutors are native or near-native French speakers. We also accept highly fluent non-native tutors if they bring specific strengths β€” for example, TEF/TCF exam coaching or adult conversation.

How quickly can I start?

Usually within 24 hours. You request a trial, we match you with a tutor, and you get a confirmation email with a meeting link as soon as your trial is scheduled.
