Terms of Service

Last updated: October 3, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of pratice.ca and the French tutoring services offered through it (the "Service"). By creating an account, booking a lesson, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Who we are

Pratice is a Canadian-facing online French-learning platform. We connect learners in Canada with vetted French tutors for one-on-one and small-group lessons, and provide free French practice materials. The Service is operated by Pratice ("we", "us", "our").

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If you are under 16, a parent or legal guardian must create and manage the account on your behalf. By using the Service you confirm that the information you provide is accurate and current.

3. Accounts

You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at learn@pratice.ca if you believe your account has been compromised.

We may suspend or terminate an account if we reasonably believe it has been used to violate these Terms, to harass another user, or to circumvent the platform (see Section 8, No-Solicit).

4. Lessons and booking

All lessons are 60 minutes unless otherwise stated, are delivered live online, and are scheduled through the platform. Trial lessons are free. Paid plans are billed monthly in Canadian dollars (CAD) through PayPal.

We match learners with tutors based on level, goals, availability, and tutor expertise. We do not guarantee a specific tutor, a specific outcome, or a specific exam score.

5. Payments

All prices are listed in CAD. Payments are processed by PayPal. By submitting a payment you authorize us (through PayPal) to charge the agreed amount for the plan or lesson you have selected.

Monthly plans renew automatically unless cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your dashboard. Cancellation stops the plan at the end of the current billing cycle; the current month is not refunded once lessons have begun.

6. Cancellations, rescheduling, and refunds

You can cancel or reschedule a lesson free of charge up to 24 hours before the scheduled start time. Inside 24 hours, the lesson counts as taken. You can manage bookings from your dashboard.

If a tutor fails to show up, you will be credited for that lesson automatically. If a technical issue on the tutor's side prevents the lesson from happening, you will be credited or rescheduled at your choice.

Refunds for monthly plans are considered on a case-by-case basis. Contact learn@pratice.ca if you have a concern about a billing period.

7. Conduct

Learners and tutors agree to treat each other with respect. The following are not permitted:

  • Harassment, discrimination, or abusive language;
  • Sharing contact details outside the platform;
  • Recording a lesson without the other party's consent;
  • Using the Service for anything illegal or harmful;
  • Attempting to bypass platform fees or scheduling.

8. No-Solicit

Tutors who are introduced to a learner through Pratice agree that this learner remains a Pratice learner. All lessons, payments, and communication between tutors and learners must run through the platform.

Messages between tutors and learners are stored on the platform and contact details (phone numbers, emails, social handles, external payment addresses) are automatically hidden. Tutors who repeatedly attempt to move lessons off-platform may be suspended and may forfeit pending payouts. The full No-Solicit Agreement is signed by every tutor during signup.

9. Intellectual property

All practice content, questions, explanations, lesson materials, branding, and code on pratice.ca are owned by Pratice or its licensors. You may use them for your personal learning, but you may not reproduce, redistribute, or resell them without our written permission.

10. Tutor content and recordings

Tutors retain ownership of their own teaching style and lesson preparation. Learners may not record lessons without explicit consent from both the tutor and Pratice. Any recording made with consent is for personal review only and may not be shared publicly.

11. Availability

We aim to keep the Service available and reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may temporarily suspend the Service for maintenance, updates, or reasons outside our control.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Pratice is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including loss of data, loss of opportunity, or exam outcomes. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months preceding the claim.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If changes are material, we will notify you by email or through the platform. Continued use of the Service after the update means you accept the new Terms.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of Ontario, unless mandatory consumer protection law in your province provides otherwise.

15. Contact

Questions about these Terms? Email learn@pratice.ca or use our contact form.

This document is a plain-language summary of Pratice's terms of use. It is not legal advice. If you need legal advice about your rights or obligations, consult a qualified lawyer in your jurisdiction.
